Lexi's team participated in the Pitch For The Cure Tournament. This weekend was in all honesty a complete disaster! Her team is falling apart. There are a few girls on her team who have really bad attitudes, and their parents do also. Their is a tangible tension on the team that continues to get worse each game. Three of the girls refused to even wear the pitch for the cure jersey's. The team unity is non-existent.
Lexi brought in the only run in this game, her team used to win, and since the attitudes and drama has gotten out of hand they haven't won any games, in fact it's bad losses.
Carly and Baylee stood at the dugout throughout this whole game and it seemed to help the team morale a little bit, but in the end they still lost.
Lexi chatting with Darrell at the end of the game. It's been really sad to watch all of this happen to the team. Lexi was very emotional after their last game, emotional because she struck out, emotional that no one on the team is lifting anyone else's spirits, and emotional because it's obvious they can't win anything with attitudes they way they are. One of the other girls struck out and Lexi tried to tell her something positive and the girl basically told her to shut up. If anyone makes a mistake the three girls who have drama written all over them make sure to make rude comments. They have also started yelling at team mates on the field.
Darrell is one of the assistant coaches, as a coaching staff they have tried having team meetings, talking to parents and trying to help everyone understand this behavior is not ok. But, it seems to be landing on deaf ears.
We are at a crossroad.
We have made a commitment to the team, but it is hurting Lexi in more ways then one. The team dynamic is a disaster! Darrell has talked to the head coach and told him we are going to leave unless things change. This is not an easy thing- this coach has been the first to accept that we don't play on Sundays, and we are strong believers in finishing out something that is started. But when I'm sitting in the stands and I'm listening to one parent rip on kids and how her daughter isn't getting the playing time she thinks she deserves it's frustrating. Her daughter has the absolute worst attitude and it's rubbed off on the two other girls. It's like a pebble thrown in water- the ripple effect is huge, it affects everyone.
Darrell just got off the phone with the coach, he is calling the family who has caused the most problems and asking them to leave the team. It's so sad to watch a team start out so well and acting like a family. To a team that is divided among themselves and has started tearing everyone apart. Ugh- not what we imagined happening!!
That's really disappointing!
